RIDGELAND, S.C. (WTOC) - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office took control and operational responsibility of the county detention center Monday after officials determined the facility was not meeting required operational standards, according to a press release WTOC just received. Sheriff Malphrus agreed to bring the facility under his office’s authority to ensure accountability, compliance, and improved conditions.

Man arrested in Cougar Country for a parole violation warrant On January 7th, 2026, at approximately 8:30 AM, Jasper County CID Investigators were following up on a burglary that occurred several months ago in Cougar Country. CID Investigators were interviewing a potential suspect, Randal Jeans, 41, of Buna, and discovered that he was wanted on a Parole Warrant issued by TDCJ.
